What to expect

Stage 1: Telephone Consultation

We will have a brief telephone conversation for up to 15 minutes to think together whether this is a service that could meet your needs, and if an assessment could be helpful. If so, we can arrange an appointment and decide who attends the assessment.

Stage 2: Assessment

Psychologists are trained to support you in making sense of difficult experiences. During an assessment I will ask questions to try and find out more about you and your family, and daily life. This may include asking about your thoughts and beliefs, feelings and body sensations, ways of coping, relationships and friendships, interests and hobbies, daily routine and health, home life and school. For parents, I may ask questions around your child’s early development and experiences. Towards the end of the assessment, I will offer a psychological understanding of the information you have shared with me.

The assessment will last up to 90 minutes. It will take place in a room where there is a sofa and chairs, and toys and games available if suitable.

The assessment allows you to meet me and ask me questions about the service and work out together whether therapy could be helpful for you and your family at this time. Also, as part of the assessment process I will make recommendations to alternative or additional services if I believe these could be beneficial for you
